There are 407 students of all grades in Cornell University at the present time. The library of the university now contains 46,000 volumes, besides 14,000 pamphlets.

President Eliot, Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Dr. Henry J. Bigelow and other eminent men have been summoned as witnesses for the defense in the Tewksbury case.

The president of Vassar College said, not long since, that "colleges for men seem to be places where they can kick off a great deal of superfluous energy and experience of youth, where they can be trained to be fit for the society of young women, and while they are undergoing this curriculum is it not just as well that the young women should remain at Smith and Vassar?"

In regard to the press reports of Columbia's poverty, it can be stated that new buildings are being put up, and the college was entirely on the income from its property, and as the principal is never touched, the income is appropriated already for some years to come.

It is tacitly understood at Yale that, barring accidents, the make-up of the university crew will be Hull, Folsom, Rogers, Guernsey, Parrott, Hyndman, and Flanders, of last year's crew, with Bourne, '83, as first, and Peters, '86, as second choice for the vacancy. Tucker, '83, is acting as coxswain.

From all that can be learned it is probable that Yale's strongest rival for the championship this year will be Brown. The game between the Providence nine and the Brown University yesterday, resulted in a score of 9 to 4 in favor of the former. Richardson, formerly the pitcher of the Brown nine of '79 and '80, who last year filled a similar position on the Worcesters, is coaching the Brown players. - [New Haven Union.
