Housing Day

Pforzheimer House

Pforzheimer House is in the Quad. If you can get over that fact, then it really is one of the best Houses on campus. With its happening House Masters, strong House life, and spacious rooms, if you get into Pfoho (and have a good pair of walking shoes), then you're set up for a great three years.

Eliot House

Tucked in a quiet corner between Winthrop and Kirkland, Eliot House might at first glance seem small (or perhaps just an extension of the Houses that flank it). Do not be mislead—Eliot offers a wealth of facilities, an exclusive spring formal, and prime real estate on the banks of the Charles River.

Quincy House

Nestled between Adams, Leverett, Lowell and DeWolfe, Quincy is centrally located in the middle of the River Houses. Quincy has monumental House spirit, enthusiastic House Masters, a host of fun traditions, and some of the best housing on campus.

Leverett House

The House of the Hare is best described as "accommodating." Although Leverett House has many advantages and disadvantages, the variety of housing options and decent location push this River House into the top two-thirds according to our ranking system.

Currier House

If you're the type of student who enjoys taking a short shuttle ride back from your afternoon activities to your retirement home, then Currier is the House for you. Most residents of Currier House report that they don't mind living in a series of dimly lit concrete towers, because their dining hall allegedly serves the best food on campus. One aspect of Currier House life, however, stands out—most Currierites reside in singles, whether off of hallways or in suites.

Animals In Class

With Housing Day just three days away, a menagerie of House mascots have popped up in classes and dining halls around campus

Dunster House

Right along the bank of the Charles River, one of Harvard's most beautiful Houses (on the outside, that is) proudly sits for all to see. No, we're not talking about Eliot. We're talking about Dunster, the former home of Al Gore '69, Tommy Lee Jones '69, Norman K. Mailer '43, and Deval L. Patrick '78. With its striking red tower, excellent dining hall, and, yes, walk-through rooms, Dunster boasts one of the strongest house communities on campus.

Mather House

On Saturday nights, flocks of freshmen trek down Dewolfe Street, looking for a good time. Nine times out of ten, they end up at Mather, where music reverberates enticingly in the concrete courtyard. Say what you will about ugly architecture and distance from the Yard, Mather has one great thing going for it: parties, and plenty of them. As for the other aspects of Mather, there aren’t as many positive things to say.

The Housing Market Reviews: A Prospectus

As Housing Day quickly approaches, one question is bubbling up all around Harvard—which of Harvard's 12 upperclassman Houses is the best? Freshmen debate this question within their blocking groups to determine which Houses they will or will not sacrifice to the River Gods. Upperclassmen aren't immune to this excitement and will become prone to fits of rage at the slightest suggestion of their House's inadequacy.

Winthrop House

If you're a freshman, you may have seen Winthrop House when you first toured campus, but it's possible that you haven't passed the House since. Winthrop is easy to miss and is often overshadowed by the more prominent towers of neighboring Eliot, Lowell, and Leverett. But is flying under the radar such a bad thing?

Cabot House

Cabot is the only Quad House that offers the traditional "Old Harvard" feel. Though it's frequently panned for its inconvenient location and decentralized buildings, Cabot boasts some of Harvard's most spacious rooms and a close-knit community. Its suburban setting offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Harvard Square.

And the Parodies Continue

Housing Day videos have traditionally drawn from popular culture to entertain freshmen, but recent videos seem to have begun a trend to look toward more eclectic sources for inspiration.

Housing Day is Pfabuloso and Pfly

Housing day is now less than a week away, and Pfoho continues to release funny videos. In "Pfoho is Too Damn Pfly," the House satirizes the notorious Jimmy McMillan of the 2010 New York gubernatorial debates. In "Pfabuloso," Pfoho parodies a Kahlúa commercial to show how living in Pfoho makes everything more "intriguing."

Housing Day Videos and Post-Its

Housing day is just over a week away, and Houses have continued to release videos for both freshmen and upperclassmen alike to enjoy.
