No. 14 men’s water polo went a perfect 2-0 on the weekend, pulling out two victories in two very close games. Saturday afternoon, the Crimson defeated No. 15 Brown 11-10 in overtime. Its success rolled over into the second game of the day, defeating crosstown rival MIT 10-8. Harvard improved its record to 11-4 this season and 3-2 in conference play.
No. 10 Harvard Men’s water polo went three for three on the weekend, defeating east coast opponents No. 17 George Washington and Chapman on Saturday, and No. 16 Bucknell on Sunday at the annual Princeton Invite. The Crimson had a dominating Saturday performance, outscoring George Washington and Chapman by a combined total of 13 goals. Competition was tighter on Sunday as Harvard edged out Bucknell by only one goal.
With 55 seconds left in the second overtime and down one point, captain Joey Colton connected with freshman Austin Sechrest to even the score and force a sudden death overtime. Minutes later, the Crimson would strike again to clinch its first ever NCAA championship win on Saturday.
Colton has not only led his team to its best record since 2001, but also has steered been a key to the program’s first ever NCAA berth, which the team obtained after clinching the NWPC this past weekend.
The No. 13 Harvard men’s water polo team pulled out two crucial conference victories this weekend over MIT and No. 10 Brown to improve its record to 5-2 in the Northeast Water Polo Conference. The Crimson took down MIT for the second time this season while defeating Brown in overtime after a close loss to the Bears at home a few weeks earlier.
Despite coming out on top in game two to force a third game, Harvard (29-17, 16-4 Ivy League) fell to Princeton (23-26, 14-6) 8-3, giving the South Division Champion Tigers the Ivy League title after defeating the North Division Champion Crimson two games to one.
The Harvard softball team spent its weekend in New Haven, picking up three wins in four games against Ivy rival Yale. The Crimson shut out the Bulldogs in its last matchup, 6-0, after a weekend of closely contested tilts. Harvard has now won nine of its last ten matchups.
