Sophomore Crew.

Yesterday the sophomore crews rowed in this order:

FIRST. SECOND.

Adams, Stroke, Butler.

McBurney, 7 Fuller.

Woodward, 6 Wadsworth.

Barnes, 5 Warner.

Du Bois, 4 Wood.

A. H. Rice, 3 Procter.

Kinnicutt, 2 Towner.

Dobyns, Bow, Brent.

Scull usually rows seven in the first boat and J. C. Rice usually strokes the second, but they did not come out yesterday.

There is material for a good crew but as yet they have many faults. They row too fast a stroke and their time and body work are rather ragged; there is a tendency to slump at the end of the stroke and to meet the oar, and the men are rather slow on the shoot. Nevertheless they row with a good deal of snap and they have a powerful leg drive.

Of last year's crew, Goodrich, Ames and Jennings are with the 'varsity squad; Cabot and Hurley are coming out later and Captain Bull is coaching. Rice is the only one of last year's crew now rowing with the squad. Their work consists of about 350 strokes on the rowing machines, and 20 minutes on the chest weights, followed by a 3 mile run. The men are to be coached by Tudor of the B. A. A., but so far most of the coaching has been done by Captain Bull, assisted by Goodrish and Perkins.
