The Harvard contestants in the New England championships last Saturday afternoon were as usual very successful. Eight men competed and won no less than ten prizes, of which three were firsts, four second and three thirds. The great record breaking performance of the day was accomplished by O. W. Shead '93, who won the 120 yards high hurdle race in 16 3-5 secs., thus breaking the Harvard record by 1-5 sec. and establishing a new New England record for this distance. Shead also won second in the broad jump with a leap of 21 ft. 7 in.

E. B. Bloss '94, created the surprise of the afternoon by winning the 100 yards dash in 10 2-5 secs. The broad jump fell easy prey to his powers for he won this event with a jump of 21 ft. 11 1-2 in. The mile walk proved an exciting contest and C. R. Bardeen '93, finished a strong second. The winner's time was 7 in. 29 1-5 secs. G. F. Brown, Jr., '92, came in second in the 220 yards dash, after winning his trial heat. Coombs, the winner covered the distance in 23 4-5 secs. G. L. Batchelder '92, won third in the half mile run. Spencer won this event in 2 in. 4 4-5 secs. S. H. Evins, L. S., captured three prizes, one second and two thirds. He won second in the shot putting contest with a put of 40 ft. 10 1-2 in., third in throwing the 16 pound hammer with a throw of 101 ft. 9 in., and third in throwing the 56 pound weight with a hurl of 19 ft. 2 in.
