LACROSSE TEAM WINS.

Cornell Defeated, 8 to 1.--Great Improvement in Offensive Play.

The lacrosse team defeated Cornell 8 goals to 1 on Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. Harvard had the advantage at all points of the game, showing faster team work and more accurate stick play, and using more body-checking than Cornell. The improvement in the attack and in goal-shooting was most noticeable.

The attack players--Taylor, Penhallow, Alvord and Breed--played well together, but the best individual work on the offense was done by Hardy, whose accurate shooting made five of Harvard's goals. The defence had little to do, and the steadiness of Mortland and Wynne kept the ball away from the goal throughout the game, except during the first few moments of the second half.

Harvard began the game with a rush and scored three goals in quick succession--all the result of shots by Hardy. Cornell seemed bewildered at the start, but improved later and kept Harvard's score down to four goals for the first half. In the second half the teams were much more evenly matched, and, although Harvard scored four goals, Cornell played a faster game and succeeded in making one point by the skillful individual playing of E. P. Smith.
