Only four professors have been given leave of absence for the coming academic year: Professor Channing of the history department, Professor J.W. White of the classical department and Professors Strobel and Westengard of the Law School.
Professor Channing will remain in Cambridge and work upon his large history of the United States, which is to be issued in eight volumes by the Macmillan Company.
Professor White will sail in the fall for Italy to spend the winter engaged in investigations on Aristophanes in the libraries of Rome and northern Italy, leaving there in the spring of 1904 for a month in Greece.
Professor Strobel will sail sometime during the coming summer for Siam where he will spend the next two years as legal adviser to the King of Siam.
Assistant Professor Westengard will also leave this summer for Siam where he will take up the duties of assistant secretary to the foreign office of the Siamese government.
