STATE GUARD CALLS VOLUNTEERS

Meeting Tonight in Union--University Authorities Explain Attitude.

Captain C. W. Fulton and Captain L. B. Rogers, both of the Newton Constabulary, will speak at 7.30 this evening in the Harvard Union to those men who are interested in joining the Newton Constabulary. Colonel J. G. White, in speaking to CRIMSON representatives last evening made the following statement:

"We very much want Harvard men to join our organization. We want them, however, only if they can serve without detriment to their college progress. Every effort will be made to permit the fulfillment of their college demands."

The attitude of the University Office is that students can volunteer with the State Guard in exactly the same manner in which they go out for any outside activity. They will not be excused from attendance at their courses, and if their standing at the November hour examinations is deficient they will be required to drop their military service. In such a case the State Guard will release them if they have not previously been mustered out.
