NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A course in Aeronautical Engineering has been instituted by the Academy of Applied Aeronautics, Chicago, Ill., with the aim of offering an opportunity to young men for a close study of aviation. It will be conducted particularly for the college man who has taken courses in mathematics, science or any department of engineering, and who is desirous of following a career in this new field of aeronautics.

The course embraces the subjects necessary to qualify for the degree of Aeronautical Engineering, and deals with the science in a thorough and complete manner, with special emphasis on the development of aircraft for commercial purposes. The subjects include aerodynamics, principles of construction, motors, navigation, photography, radio, and an economic study of costs. The duration of the complete course is nine months, for which a fee of $250 is charged. Students who are able to show that they are proficient in certain subjects will not be required to remain with the school the entire nine months, in which case arrangements can be made in regard to subjects and terms. Facilities are also being offered for students who desire to participate in flights. These flights will be conducted under the supervision of skilled and highly trained pilots, and "stunts" or any form of dangerous flying will be rigidly barred. An additional fee of $150 is required to qualify as a pilot.

A special summer course in aeronautics is also being offered by the same organization. This course embraces a series of lectures on types of aircraft and their uses, illustrating their development from the earliest experimental forms to the modern craft used for commercial purposes. Instruction in navigation, the plotting of course, and the use of navigation instruments is also included in this course, and will be put in practice in actual flights with hydro-aeroplanes. The duration of this course is two months. Classes will be organized for July 1st and 15th, additional courses being provided for as conditions warrant. The fee for the special summer course, including flights, is $100. The institution is housed in a four story fire-proof structure of steel and concrete. The building is fitted with light, airy classrooms, recreation quarters, library, reading and smoking rooms, and the largest school workshop in the country.

Further information may be obtained from the offices of the Academy of Applied Aeronautics, Irving Park Boulevard and Western avenue, Chicago, Ill.
