PERRIN WINS TROPHY DESIGN

INTERDORMITORY CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE INSCRIBED ON SHIELDS.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Hugh Perrin '21 has been awarded the $50 prize offered by the Department of Physical Training for the best design for a permanent trophy for the Freshman Interdormitory Athletic Championship. The second prize of $10 was given to Nathaniel Choate '22 by the committee in charge of the award composed of Mr. William H. Geer, director of the department; Professor John S. Humphries '93 and Professor Arthur Pope '01.

Eight designs in all were submitted, of which the winning design only will be utilized. The trophy as conceived by Perrin consists of a shield somewhat in the shape of a heart, on which is inscribed: "Interdormitory All-Around Athletic Championship." One of these is to be placed in each of the Freshman halls with the name of the dormitory engraved upon it. In the centre is a space on which the permanent record of the championships won by the individual dormitory will be engraved on each side of this tablet, and at the bottom detachable tablets are provided labelled: "Autumn Championship," "Winter Championship," and "Spring Championship," respectively. Thus the dormitory winning a seasonal championship will keep the corresponding emblem with the permanent part of the trophy until the year's championship has finally been won. Each of the detachable emblems is surmounted by a drawing in relief representing Football, Hockey, and Baseball, respectively.

The entire design is to be executed in bronze mounted on an oaken panel.
