Question for University-Princeton-Yale Debate This Year Is Recognition of Soviet Russia -- Experienced Material Available

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Annual Triangular Debate between Yale, Princeton, and the University will be held on Friday, March 24. Following trials last night, under the supervision of Judge Arthur P. Stone '93, the tentative assignment of the University speakers was announced as follows:

To debate against Princeton in Sanders Theatre: S. A. Rosenblatt '22, Philip Walker '25, and N. E. Himes '22; To debate against Yale at New Haven: W. B. McGregor '22, R. S. Fanning '23, and C. W. Phelps '22. The alternates selected are: H. W. Hardy '22, M. P. Lichauco '23, and P. W. Williams '25.

The question to be debated is, "Resolved: that the United States, in joint action with England, France and Japan, should recognize the Soviet Government of Russia". By agreement, joint action is defined as simultaneous action. The debate is concerned with the American point of view and assumes that the other nations will come to our conclusion.

Under the triangular arrangement there is a debate at each of the three universities on the same question on the same night. This year the University representatives will debate on the affirmative against Yale at New Haven, and on the negative against Princeton in Sanders Theatre, while Yale will send an affirmative team to Princeton.

Five of the University speakers have had experience in intercollegiate debating and two were on the Freshman team last fall. The team has had some practice this winter in debates against Syracuse and against Ohio Wesleyan. They are being coached by three former debaters now in the Law School. The practice from now until March 24 will consist of several conferences and trial debates.
