RAWLINS GRABS TITLE FROM CAPTAIN-ELECT

RALLIES OFTEN ENDED ONLY BY BREAKS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

H. N. Rawlins '27 defeated G. D. Debevoise '26 yesterday in the final round of the college squash racquets tournament played on the University Squash Courts. The two were very, evenly matched and there were many prolonged rallies in which it was merely a matter of breaks.

The first game was won with some difficulty by Debevoise, 17 to 14, but the next two Rawlins captured, both to the score of 15 to 10. Debevoise rallied, however, and won the fourth 15 to 12. The last game was contested for a long time, with Rawlins leading by a point or two throughout. At the end, Debevoise, trailing 10 to 14, rallied and won the next three points, but a clever side wall shot by Rawlins proved too much for him, and he succumbed 15 to 13.

While neither played brilliantly, according to Coach Cowles, each put up a consistent getting game. Rawlins was the steadier of the two, as the impetuous attack of Debevoise often resulted in misplaced shots. Rawlins was frequently successful in scoring aces on his serve.

Rawlins will be the only veteran next year with the exception of Debevoise, who will captain the 1926 team. Strong competition is promised for the vacancies by R. S. Wright '26, L. S. Haskins '26, P. R. Pease '26, and P. M. Lenhart '27 of Team B. Competitors from this year's Freshman team will be L. L. Pool and G. L. Francis.

The finals of the University squash tournament will be played on or before Saturday. In the final round, P. M. Lenhart '27 will play the winner of L. S. Haskins '26 and H. N. Rawlins '27.
