Facing strong opposition in the first formal race of the year, the Crimson eights will enter the triangular regatta this afternoon in the basin as second choice to a strong Princeton aggregation.

In the Varsity race Captain Sam Drury's eight is not expected to retrieve the Compton Cup from the Tiger shell which two weeks ago beat the Penn A. C. But the Crimson is rated as favorite over the Tech eight since Guy Haines, the lightweight stroke, is lost to the Engineers and it is doubtful if they will display the coordination and skill which they showed last week.

The Crimson Jayvee shell, stroked by Bobbie Cutler, has had a lot of experimenting done in the seatings this week and will not have an easy time with the Tiger Seconds. Princeton has found its Jayvees as good as its Varsity several times during the past two weeks and Coach Sikes has had a hard job choosing the best and second-best eight. As in the Varsity contest odds put the Engineers in third place.

When the yearlings meet, it will be anyone's race. The Crimson has lost two men from a first boat which showed up well in the race against the Varsity last Saturday.

The Harvard fifties will not compete in the regatta but the Nassau and M. I. T. lightweights will row at 4 o'clock.

Times of the races and boatings follow: Varsity, 5.30 o'clock, Junior Varsity, 5 o'clock; Freshman, 4.30 o'clock. Varsity: stroke, Drury; 7, Eliel; 6, Roosevelt; 5, Choate; 4, Simmons; 3, Clark; 2, Austin; bow, Haskins; cox, Hunter.

Junior Varsity: stroke, Cutler; 7, Watson; 6, Keyes; 5, Atherton; 4, Scott; 3, Bray; 2, Cutler; bow, Rantoul; cox, Bennett.

Freshman: stroke, Chace; 7, Twining; 6, Erickson; 5, Radway; 4, Scott; 3, Gardner; 2, Clark; bow, Brooks; cox, White.
