The new apparatus was needed to meet a continually increasing consumption of electricity. A cylindrical hideosity of 2400 pounds, it was lowered into a manhole in back of Greys with all the skill of men of the W.P.A.
One end of a rope was tied around the top of the contraption, the other thrown over the limb of an elm and seized by the workers. They then proceeded to ease the machinery into the hole, inch by inch, foot by foot, fighting it all the way with audible grunts and groans.
