MATMEN SLAM JUMBOS, 29-5

'45 Squad Wins Shutout; Miller Gets Quick Victory

By J. ROBERT Moskin

If the Varsity wrestlers learned only one lesson since their defeat by M.I.T. last month, it must have been how to throw their opponents with a half nelson and a body press. In sweeping Tufts last night at the Indoor Athletic Building the grapplers totaled all four falls by this effective hold. Three additional favorable decisions accounted for the 29-5 victory.

Simultaneously, the Freshman took everyone of their matches against the Jumbos, only falling a fall in two cases shutting out the visitors 36-0. Heavy-weight Fred French set the Yardlings' best time of the evening by assuring the sweep in 1:13 of his final contest.

Miller Mashes

Vern Miller made fast work of Bill Page of Tufts by literally squashing him in 1:26 minutes. Officially, his win was recorded as a half nelson and body press. Captain Dick Thomas put in the Crimson's most spectacular and skillful performance by pinning Lee Hopkins in 5:57.

Johnny Coulouriotes won the Jumbos lone five points when he floored underweight Bill Taylor in 4:09 in the 136-pound class. Taylor was wrestling for ace Jim Redmon, who is benched with an injured knee.

In one of the meet's closest-fought contests Hal Tine won an 8-1 decision over Tufts' Captain Al di Lorenzo. Don Miles came up from behind to win his 9-5 decision, while Harry Blaine in the 128 pound class was only unable to roll his prostrate opponent over to achieve a fall. Lee Sosman and Jim Reidy completed the Varsity's triumph with falls 4:06 and 5:03 respectively.
