William and Mary College Extends Invitation to Board

Though its leisurely spring junket to southern climes for a meeting at the College of William and Mary breaks a tradition in vogue for over 300 years, the Board of Overseers entrains today for Dunbarton Oaks, in Washington, where members will open their crowded schedule with a luncheon at Harvard's new museum of...Byzantine art. Regular meetings of the Board have always been held in Cambridge of Boston since the first one in 1637.

President Conant is expected to stop in at the meeting on his way to the White House to report to the President. The Overseers accepted an invitation extended by a fellow-member of the Board, John S. Bryan, who is head of William and Mary and publisher of the Richmond "News Leader." William and Mary is the second oldest college in the country, founded in 1693.

On Saturday morning a formal reception at William and Mary is planned for the visitors, with an address later by the Honorable Charles Francis Adams '88, President of the Board of Overseers. After the regular Board meeting, the Overseers will adjourn to meet in the afternoon at the restored House of Burgesses, the legislative body of the Old Dominion.

In the evening the Overseers and the ladies of the party will be given a dinner at the Raleigh Tavern by Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. On Sunday they will attend morning services at Bruton Parish Church, after which they will entertain their hosts at luncheon at the Williamsburg Inn.

During the intervals between the formal events of the program, the Overseers will visit the restoration of historic buildings and neighboring places of interest.
