70 Prospects Appear For First Practice of Weakened Eleven

Only Forte Started In 1941 Yale Game

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

About the only department that was fully manned by veterans, when 70 football prospects turned up at Briggs Cage yesterday afternoon for the first practice session of the year was the coaching staff. Only Captain Don Forte of the eleven men who started against Yale in the stadium last year answered Coach Dick Harlow's first 1942 whistle.

Conspicnous by their absence were men such as Dave Goldthwaite, Don McNicol, Johnny Page, and Ray Guild, who were expected to show up. But to bolster his weakened squad, Harlow made several changes. Johnny Teal moves from tackle to fullback, while "Swede" Anderson, a center last year, will be converted into a bucking back.

Out yesterday to help the regular coaching staff were Nick Mellen, last year's Freshman line coach, now in the Navy, "Club" Peabody, Tom Gardiner, and Dick Pfister. From last year's all-house team, George Waters, Howie Gleason, Stan Durwood, and Bob Hurley reported.

Following is the list of candidates:
