To the Editor of the Crimson:

An anti-lynching bill is a constructive, liberal measure, and it has long been generally desired. The present petition now being circulated in the Houses, however, contains the germs of a highly illiberal attitude. The circulators of this petition would like to have the anti-lynch bill passed as a "war measure." In other words, they would like an anti-lynch measure forced upon the South much as Prohibition was foisted upon the nation at large during the last World War. This would dangerously split the country. The South should not be pampered on this matter, but the method being used is highly dangerous.

This is a ticklish matter, lynching should not be cloaked by "national unity" but it will not be satisfactorily solved by a "war measure." It should be approached in a more democratic manner, for otherwise it will never receive a lasting solution. Leon A. Danco, Jr. '44.
