Students enrolled in Naval Science are now required to report four days a week to a newly-instituted Naval physical training program, including jiu jitsu, boxing, wrestling, road work, swimming, and calisthenics, according to an official order recently issued by Captain George N. Barker.

Tunney-trained Chief Boatswain's Mate John Geston will conduct the program which must be attended by prospective officers, with the exception of those who are out for intercollegiate teams. Men enrolled in active sports, such as tennis, squash, and single-scull rowing, will be required to be present at only two periods a week.

A graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, Geston received his training at the Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia.

The Naval Department has laid down the same rules for unauthorized absences as has the College, namely, six such absences bring virtually automatic probation. Each student will be given grades, depending on his interest and cooperation in the program, with an eye toward his future aptitude as a full-fledged officer in the Navy.

According to Lieutenant-Commander George H. L. Peet, who will direct the general aspects of the program, the Unit intends by physical education, not only to make its prospective officers fitter but to improve their qualities for officership.
