Navy Supply Corps Midshipmen Officers School

By Jack Shindier

The Junior officer's beer bust Friday evening gave the weekend impetus right from the start. Few of us could locate and thank many of our hosts, but we all agree that we don't have enough pleasant gatherings like this. To the Junior officers we say thank you; may we meet together again.

Around the long lines of frothy pitchers, the Idaho contingent, among others, had an relay reunion. Present were Harry Magnuson, Tommy smith, Red Widmer; Junior officers Roper and Ringe, Johnny White, Al Kallaus, Bob Shepard, Jay Glassmann, and Jim Grisham.

The right note was sounded when Lieutenant Towne suggested a permanent concession behind Chase designed to improve the humor and up the efficient of all midshipmen during these sweltering days. But Boston's beer supply would never bear the strain. We'll just have to wait for that long New England winter.

From this start it was but a short step for Johnny Barsanti and his forty majors to a full weekend. At RKO Paul Kelly got caught in a colored frenzy as Lionel Hampton put the audience in the aisles.

But others like Ken Hinman spent part of the weekend brushing the soot off out at the ballpark. Ken recommends this Sunday afternoon diversion to anyone who likes some relaxation short of breaking that distinction tension.

Speaking of distinctions, Bud Bloom at 2200 Sunday night was working madly away to reach an "SOL" decision on Japan before the deadline. Poto Holm and Johnny Justice could have told him that two weeks ago. The Japs might as well give up when these reports go in to Washington.

Suave Tom Ramoy spent a Saturday night at Chase gazing at that big yellow moon which others saw to better advantage from Revere and Hampton. Tom had thoughts of a Texas gal down in the Panhandle on his mind. We won't call it homesickness, but he frankly did.

Russ Parker wears a terrific sunburn now, you'll notice. He just can't keep away from the water and from all reports is batting 1.000 on these weekend jaunts so far.

This week is a milestone in the progress of the class. Given social recognition first by the Junior officers, we now look to academic recognition after completing our first course this Saturday. This situation now seems well in hand Hence we'll see you at the Red Cross station tomorrow.
