Mather Calls for Cheerful Sharing Of Recent Skills

Inclusion of seven million dollars in the Marshall Plan for books and technical papers was asked last night by Kirtley F. Mather, professor of Geology, at a meeting of the Student Association of Natural and Social Sciences in Lowell House Junior Common Room.

Mather claimed that the sharing of our war - time accumulated technical knowledge would make an invaluable contribution to a more speedy European recovery. "This aid should be given only in a spirit of sympathy and co-operation, and not as a defense against communism," he said.

Confirming the fact the the United States can readily supply the food, clothing, machine tools, seeds, and breeding stock with "just enough sacrifice to make us feel good," Mather nevertheless warned that limited supplies of petroleum and high-grade iron ores severely limits the prospect of aid in this line.
