Rough Army Quintet Edges Crimson, 59-57 in Overtime

"Keep firin' at 'em, boys," the poker-faced Major on the end of the Army bench kept drawling Saturday night at the Blockhouse. The Cadets kept firing away. They hit often enough to win in overtime, 59 to 57, despite the fact that the Varsity at times played some of its best ball of the year. It was the third straight overtime game the Crimson has lost this season.

Although the visitors froze at the free throw line, popping only five out of sixteen tries, they were embarrassingly accurate on their set shooting, and they played a bruising floor game. When they lost the ball, they would go after it like football players diving for a fumble. "They just out-hustled us," assistant coach Lloyd Harper said yesterday.

Why did Steve Davis enter the game as the first substitute instead of Walt McCurdy, who sent the game into overtime with four quick points in the final seconds?. Harper said yesterday that Davis looked immense in practice during the past week and deserved a chance to get into action.

For the Varsity, John Rockwell and Bill Prior both looked good, with Rockwell hooking fancy shots with either hand and also tightening up on defense.
