Golfers Play Bowdoin Today

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With just two matches left before the Eastern Intercollegiates, golf coach Bill Barclay has finally chosen a team. Seven players from the new 12-man squad will play Bowdoin at 2 p.m. today at the Dedham Country Club.

The one-month delay wasn't Barclay's fault, though. It took that long to hold playoffs among the 30 varsity candidates who showed up in March. Meanwhile, Barclay has been fielding the seven men who seemed best in practice.

The new squad includes Bill Rickenbacker, Dave German, Hugh Nawn, Crawford Hubbell. Herb Meet, Bob Matson. Dick O'Keeffe, Bruce McIntyre, Sam Seager, Eliot Putnam, Scott Lukins, and Jack Denton. The first seven of these--Rickenbacker through O'Keeffe--will play Bowdoin today.

The whole squad will hold intra-team playoffs before each remaining game to determine the team for the game.

Bowdoin is supposed, to have a high quality team this year. It beat Dartmouth, which in turn beat Harvard.

Freshman Golf

Freshman golfers play their first match of the season at 2 p.m. today, at Exeter.

The '52 squad has four strong men, who consistenly score near 80' and three weaker players. Exeter, which also plays its first match today, has a lineup that quickly tapers off from good golfers to mediocre ones.

Harvard's team includes Paul Weissman, Dusty Burke, Burt Eggan Mitch Roscuhottz, Larry Pierce, Bill Thompson, Jr., and Pote Retch. Other '52 Players who won't sea action today are Jim Hilbodi, Dave Symmes, and Johany Sears.
