Whitney Named To Presidency of Overseers Board

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

George Whitney '07, chairman of the board of directors of J. P. Morgan and Co., was re-elected president of the Board of Overseers at its opening meeting yesterday.

Whitney, who has held the post for two years, succeeded Senator Leverett Saltonstall '14 in the position. It is customary to re-elect a man to the Overseers presidency, until his term expires. Whitney completes his six year period on the supreme governing board of the University in June, 1953.

Among the topics that may have come up at yesterday's meeting was the first approval of a new dean of the College. Dean Bender is scheduled to take over the admissions office next year, and it is expected that the University will give his successor time to orient himself to the job.

It usually takes two meetings for an appointment to pass the Board of Overseers. To prevent hasty action, the name has to be brought up at two successive meetings.
