Winthrop Battles Leverett for Title

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Leverett's surprise team plays a powerhouse this afternoon, when the Bunnies and Winthrop meet on the House Field in the season's finale, a game which will decide the House football championship. Kickoff time is 2:30 p.m.

Winthrop is undefeated in six games. Only a tie with Lowell mars the record of the smooth-playing Puritans. Leverett, on the other hand, dropped its opener to Lowell also, and then came up with five straight wins.

Typical of the Bunny drive was the Eliot game, which saw the Hutch losing at the half, 14 to 0, but finally winning, 18 to 14.

Teams Use T

Both teams use a straight T-formation, but Dwight Hyde's Puritans rely largely on the long passes of quarterback Walt Greeley and the off-tackle power of half-back Jim Wykoff. Leverett also has a fine passer in Bucky O'Connor.

Bunny Coach Paul Staley--captain of Dartmouth last year--can field one of the League's fastest backfields: Captain Sam Paschal, Sandy Batchelder, and Lee Chandler.

Winthrop is the heavy favorite, although the Puritans are still without the injured Bill Hickey, a fine pass-catching halfback. Al Switzer will, however, return for this game, to give the Puritans extra strength on the ends.

Leverett, too, has a pair of good pass-catching ends in Lowell Sachnoff and Ken Herlihy. But the Bunnies have lost the services of defensive end Dave Watts and two-way center Bob Rosenman, injured in the Kirkland game, which Leverett won, 13 to 0. Winthrop, on' the other hand, downed Kirkland, 26 to 0.
