Judge Hand Not Likely to Be Available for Law Lectures

Judge Learned Hand '93, a federal judge since 1909, has been offered the position of Holmes Lecturer at the Law School this spring, but there is only "one chance in 200 that I will be able to accept it," he said yesterday.

Judge Hand said that he had at first accepted the offer with pleasure, but that the press of business and speaking engagements has kept him from preparing any material for the series of lectures. Dean Griswold of the Law School yesterday refused to comment on any possible replacements for Hand or on the possibility that Hand might give the Holmes talks at a later date. The Holmes lectureships are not necessarily given every year.
