Mal Holmes Sidelined By Leg Surgery; Will Miss Concert, Games

Malcolm H. Holmes '28, conductor of the University Band, will not be able to conduct the band's Dartmouth concert in Sanders Theatre this Friday evening.

According to Dana Hastings '53, manager of the Band, Holmes had an emergency operation on his leg last week, and is not expected to be leading the band for some weeks. He also missed out on last week's Colgate game.

Peter Strauss '54, who conducted in the Stadium Saturday, will also conduct the concert, Hastings said. Strauss has been student conductor for two years.

It will be the first major band function that Holmes has missed since he became conductor in 1942, except for the years 1943-46, when the band was inactive.
