Conant Will Meet 4 Design Teachers On Revitalization

By Michael Maccoby

President Conant will present a plan for a revitalized Design School to four key faculty members this morning.

At 11 a.m., Hugh A. Stubbins, Jr., acting dean of Design; Lester A. Collins, chairman of the department of Landscape Architecture; Norman T. Newton, chairman of the department of Architectural Sciences; and William L. C. Wheaton, chairman of the department of Regional Planning, will assemble in Massachusetts Hall to discuss Conant's proposals for a changed Design School.

Met Before

Last Monday, Conant met with this group and suggested a course of action which produced mixed reactions among the Design faculty. He promised to reconsider and modify his statements. The revised proposal will probably be given by Conant this morning.

Conant may also give some idea of his choice of a new Design School dean today. For over a year he has been searching for a successor to Dean Hudnut, who remains in the school only until a new dean is chosen. Hudnut, who is now in California, will not attend the meeting this morning.

The conference will last two hours, and it is expected that Conant will air the whole problem of Design School finances, revised curricula, and proposed reorganization of any of Design's three departments.

Conant met with Sidney Shurcliff, noted Boston landscape architect, yesterday at 4:30 p.m. Shurcliff could not be reached for comment last night.
