President Conant's "Science and Common Sense" was among 40 "notable books" picked by the American Library Association at its mid-winter meeting at Chicago this weekend.
The selection committee's appraisal of Conant's book reads: "Through selected case histories, the author explains the methods of science for the layman."
Harold F. Brigham, State Librarian of Indiana and president of the Public Libraries Division of the association, said the main basis for the selections was the role each played in public library service to promote "enlightened citizenship and enrich personal life."
