Fewer Yalies Will Register

Yale, like Harvard, will see a slight decrease in overall enrollment this year.

There will be approximately 7,000 men in the university this year, as compared with last year's 7,600. Harvard's enrollment this year is expected to be 10,080.

Yale's pre-World War II enrollment was 5,500. Yale officials estimate there will be 450 students still under the WW II G. I. Bill, plus about 50 under the Korean G. I. Bill. There were 1000 veterans at the school last year.

In line with a long range policy of smaller entering classes only 1025 men will enroll as freshmen. 1200 freshmen will enter Harvard this year, although it, too, has a long range policy of smaller classes.

Follows Harvard

Again following Harvard, Yale will begin a plan of general education this fall, supported by a five million dollar gift to the college last winter. The plan includes a tutorial system for sophomores, similar to the one to go in operation here with the House deans' program.

Yale closed its 250th anniversary last spring, but will mark two other anniversaries this year. One is the 200th anniversary of the oldest standing building on the campus--Connecticut Hall.
