Penn Whips Quintet, 92-73, In Final Contest of Season

Penn crushed the varsity basketball team, 92 to 72, yesterday in the Blockhouse, to hand the Crimson its eleventh straight defeat and clinch last place in the Mastern Isles-collegiate Basketball League for the losers. The contest was the last of the season for the varsity.

Despite the runaway defeat, forward harry sacks managed to dump in eight points, and break the unofficial all-time Crimson season scoring record.

The visitors took control immediately. After six minutes, they led 18 to 3, and by the third period, a 15-point Penn victory looked certain.

Penn forward Joe sturgis tossed in 22 points to lead the scoring; teammates Ed Gramigna and Barton Leach followed with 17 each to help the Quakers register their highest score of the season.

Bill Dennis, one of four Crimson seniors playing their last game, collected 15 points to lead varsity scoring. Captain Ed Krinsky, Ed Ccondon and Ed blodnick also ended their collegiate careers. Sacks, although considerably below his 17.2 point average, broke the team scoring record at 6:10 minutes of the their period. He added three niore points, to bring his season total to 432, four points over the 428-point standard established by John Rockwell in 1949.
