Lacrosse Ten Set Back by Wildcats, 20-7

The varsity lacrosse team lost, 20 to 7, yesterday afternoon to a powerful New Hampshire squad on the Business School field.

Led by Captain Bill Johnson in the midfield, the Wildcats jumped off to a quick start against the Crimson in the first period and led, 12 to 11, at the half. Johnson frequently drove his way through as many as three men to score unassisted.

Both teams substituted heavily in the second half, and the Crimson's play improved, scoring three goals to New Hampshire's eight. Instead of his usual three midfield teams, Coach Bruce Munro alternated four, and the new group played well in their first regular assignment.

Captain Dexter Lewis led the Crimson attack with three goals, and Jim Gale, Fuzz Stewart, Larry Coburn, and Don Dawidoff each scored one goal in the second half.

New Hampshire's speed gave the Crimson most of its difficulties, as the Wildcat midfielders continually broke around the varsity defense for extra man plays. In such situations, both midfielders and attackers combined to outnumber the goalie and his defense men.

The Crimson defense began to double team Johnson in the second half, and with Leo Daley doing a fine job, managed to hold down his scoring. After the first five minutes of the contest, Tom Cooney replaced regular goalie John Ogden and made several good saves throughout the remainder of the game.
