White Names Two Sites For Behavior Building

By Charles I. Kingson

Two possible sites for the Behavioral Sciences building, both on Kirkland St., have been named by Robert T. White '25, chairman of the Department of Social Relations.

One location would be next to Littauer, on land now occupied by Lawrence Hall, a Graduate School of Education building. The other site is the corner of Kirkland St. and Divinity Ave., opposite the Busch-Reisinger Museum.

The difficulty with the Lawrence Hall area, stated White, is that the School of Education also plans to erect a new building there. He said that it was "problematical" whether there would be enough space for two structures.

An administrational assistant of the School of Education, George T. Sizer, predicted last night that Lawrence Hall, Batchelder House, and Peabody House would have to be torn down. Describing these buildings, which lie between Litauer and New Lecture Hall, as "wrecks," he explained that their destruction would provide "plenty of room" for both an Education and a Behavioral Sciences Building.

Such a large scale moving problem would not arise at the other site, at Divinity Ave. and Kirkland St., which according to White, is "partly empty." Randall Hall occupies part of this site; but the University Printing Company, which formerly had its headquarters there, "will have a new building."

White indicated that either of these sites was convenient for the Social Relations and Psychology Departments, which will occupy the proposed building. The Littauer area is near the Computation Labs, which the Social Relations and Psychology Departments often use. The other location, added White, would be close enough to the Biological Labs to be helpful to the departments.

The new Behavioral Sciences building, disclosed White, will combine several facilities of both departments.
