J. Grey Jones, Jr. '61, secretary-treasurer of the Harvard Motor Sports Club, won the speed championship in a sports car gymkhana sponsored by the Boston Motor Sports Club at Shoppers' World in Framingham Sunday afternoon.

Other cars and drivers entered by the HMSC finished back in the field because of penalties. It was the sixth time in the past seven years that the HMSC has taken the speed championship at the Boston club's gymkhana. Last year, the Harvard entry finished second in the speed event, but won the touring championship.

In a recent news bulletin, the HMSC announced a fall schedule featuring a gymkhana and a rallye held under its own sponsorship and five other events in which club members will participate. The HMSC Members' Gymkhana will take place on Sunday, October 11, at the Sylvania Electric Company parking lot in Waltham.

This gymkhana will be for regular club members only, but the HMSC Interclub Invitational Rallye on Saturday, Nov. 7, will include drivers from other schools, as will other October events in which the HMSC will take part. The site of the Invitational Rallye has not yet been announced.

A film of the Monza "500" race of 1958 will be shown at the HMSC registration meeting Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the Lowell House Junior Common Room. Other motor sports films will be featured at club business meetings Oct. 15 and Nov. 12.

In addition to the events on the fall schedule, the HMSC has planned three more gymkhanas and one more rallye later this year. Further, according to Jones, the club intends to hold an auto-cross at Orange Air Base sometime next spring. This event, in which cars race individually around a track and compete on a best time basis, is the first of its kind to be sponsored by a college organization.

The HMSC fall schedule:

Oct. 11--HMSC Members' Gymkhana, Sylvania Electric Company parking lot, Waltham.

Oct. 18--Twelve Hour Rallye, Quequechan Sports Car Club.

Oct. 17-18--Hill Climb, Mt. Belknap, Laconia, N.H., Boston Motor Sports Club.

Oct. 18--Rallye, Touring Club of New England.

Oct. 24--Rallye, New England Region, SCCA.

Oct. 31--Monstre Rallye Sequel (Night Rallye), Coast Road Driving Club.

Nov. 7--HMSC Interclub Invitational Rallye.
