Signups Fall 140 Short for Coed Living

Dean May reported yesterday that only 300 Harvard undergraduates have indicated that they are willing to move next year to the Radcliffe Quadrangle.

This number is considerably fewer than was anticipated by the Kagan Committee and would prevent implementation of the co-residential plan on its projected scale. As many as 440 women may move to the Harvard Houses next year.

In an effort to reach the recommended quota. May has again extended the deadline for applications from Harvard undergraduates wishing to move to Radcliffe. applications will be accepted at 4 University Hall until 5 p. m. Wednesday, April 22.

No More Extensions

The number of applications received by Wednesday will be the final determinant of the scope of co-residential living next year, and no more extensions will be possible, May said.

If only 300 male students are willing to make space for Cliffies at Harvard, four or five of the Houses will probably be co-residential, May said. If 440 can participate in the exchange, as many as six Harvard Houses will have girls, he added.

In making the extension, May said that "the Radeliffe room assignment process will rely on interviews and will give a priority to the student's class."

Genevieve Austin, dean of Residence at Radcliffe, has already chosen 440 places for men in all of the Radcliffe Houses, including Currier, the Wolbach apartments, and the Jordan cooperatives, based on the availability of bathrooms and as equal a distribution as possible.

Almost All Singles

Almost all the rooms at Radcliffe designated for men are singles. May also said that "groups of up to four men who apply together will be assigned to the same dormitory or floor."
