After Michigan and Oklahoma were named to the National Invitational Basketball Tournament yesterday, bringing the number of filled berths to 12, Harvard's hopes for a position rest with the final four selections.
Michigan becomes the first Big Ten conference team to accept an NIT invitation. The conference has recently changed its rules to allow a team other than the champion to play in the tournament.
The Ivy League has made the same change in its regulations, and second-place Harvard hopes to get the bid. First-place Penn will play in the NCAA tournament.
Michigan defeated Harvard. 100-73, when they met in the Michigan Invitational in December.
