At the beginning of second round action, Harvard is in second place in the New England Intercollegiate Tennis Championships. The raquetmen are tied with the University of Vermont with five matches, one behind co-leaders Tufts and Brandeis.
Second-seeded Gary Reiner '76 volleyed the Crimson into contention yesterday with a victory over Peter McGlothlin of Dartmouth.
It took Reiner an hour or so to settle down and dispose of McGlothlin 6-1 in the second set giving him the victory. The Harvard captain had battled to a 7-6 first set triumph.
Reiner is following in the footsteps of brother Jim, who took the individual title in last year's tournament while leading Harvard to the championship.
Second round action continues today as the competition winds to a climax on Sunday. The tournament is being played at Amherst.
