LOS ANGELES--The University of Southern California is offering a two-hour, non-credit mini-course in self defense that certifies students to carry Mace.
For $15 the students learn how to carry and use Mace, a form of tear gas that temporarily blinds and burns. After completing the course, students may get a police permit to purchase and carry Mace.
Last year 32 assaults, 38 robberies and six rapes were reported on the USC campus. Two weeks ago an 84-year-old emeritus professor of biology was stabbed repeatedly in her office. She was listed in serious condition in California Hospital.
