LOS ANGELES--Security officers at the University of Southern California have caught a man suspected of painting the toenails of perhaps dozens of women as they studied in the student center.

Police said the man's modus operandi was to sit next to a coed and drop things on the floor every few minutes. Each time he bent down to pick up an object he would paint another toenail.

No action has yet been taken aginst the man, who was neither a student nor university employee, but police said painting someone's toenails without their permission could be classified as assault.
