Senior Landya Boyer, co-captain of Harvard's women's junior varsity basketball team for all four of her years at Harvard, topped off her basketball career with a victory and a warm farewell from her teammates at Briggs Athletic Center last night.

In the last game of the season, Boyer led Harvard to a decisive 75-12 victory over Long Shore Community College.

"We're really going to miss her," Coach Nancy Hogan said afterwards. "She's an exemplary player with superb leadership qualities and she works extremely hard."

Boyer has led the team for the last two years in scoring and assists and has consistently scooped up rebounds for the Crimson as well.

"I feel sad, and I'm really going to miss my teammates a lot," Boyer said.

Co-Captain Cassandra Coe called Boyer "our most consistent player."

"If we're behind, we give the ball to Landya and she gets it in. She's awe some," Coe added.

With Boyer's sharpshooting from the outside, Harvard trounced Long Shore in the consolation game of a weekend tournament.

Boyer said she has worked hard to improve her shooting skills. "When I was a freshman, I didn't shoot the ball at all. The coach helped me out and I think my shooting ability has improved," she explained.

The co-captain has persevered through team problems as well. "Last year, as captain, the hardest thing to deal with was when several members of the team quit. We had to get the team together and we did, with a lot of work," she said.

Boyer has also been active in Winthrop House, saving as vice president and athletic secretary. She is also captain of Harvard's softball team.
