Memo Sent to Radcliffe Affiliates

By Rodolfo J. Fernandez, Contributing Reporter

The attempted rape of a woman two weeks ago has prompted Radcliffe officials to notify all affiliates and staff.

The memorandum, released two days after the February 19 incident, provides Harvard University Police Department's description of the suspect.

The assailant was described as a dark-haired white male in his twenties. The police description of the man said he was about 5'8" tall and of medium build.

The memorandum, sent by Anna Philbert of Radcliffe Facilities, was distributed to all Radcliffe personnel and posted inside the Lyman Common Room. It is the only official notice that the University has released regarding the incident.

According to the Harvard Police, the Cambridge Police Department is in charge of the investigation, since the attempted rape occurred off campus.

Due to the proximity of the attempted rape to Radcliffe Yard, Radcliffe Facilities has urged all of its affiliates "to be particularly cautious and aware of the surroundings" if they need to visit the area after dark.

In the memorandum, Radcliffe Facilities also outlines security proce- dures around the area of the assault, includingthe use of a panic button in the Lyman Common Roomand the blue "emergency" telephones positioned inseveral locations.

It is not clear if the woman was a Radciffeaffiliate.
