"Live" Resolution on Docket For Sunday Night's Meeting

A resolution to bring the alternative band Live to Harvard is officially on the docket for Sunday's Undergraduate Council meeting, according to Campus Life Committee Co-Chair Jonathan P. Feeney '97.

The council's executive board met last night to discuss a potential $35,000 bid to bring the band to campus April 29. The concert would take place in Briggs Cage.

The board decided last week to postpone the council-wide vote on the resolution in order to get more information. Last night, board members said the vote will definitely take place this Sunday.

"We want to hear from both sides," Feeney said. "We'd really like to hear from those people with financial and administrative concerns."

Feeney said that if the resolution is passed, the total appropriation for the project would be $40,000. In addition to the actual bid for the band, $1500 is needed for police, $1500 for advertising, ticketing and postering, and $2000 for flexibility in case more security is needed.

Tufts University has submitted a competing bid for the band that is higher than Harvard's, Feeney said. And because Tufts is proposing to offer the concert for free, the two schools will not cooperate, said Feeney.

An amendment may be discussed Sunday that would raise ticket prices to $12 and $18 in order to raise more money, Feeney said.
