The Friday morning Herald gives a column to an account of a recent glove contest in New York, between Mr. John Roosevelt, of the Union club, who recently graduated from Oxford, and won the heavy-weight championship while there, and Mr. Rutgers Van Brunt, of the Kuickerbocker club. The latter gentleman is a graduate of Harvard, class of '80, and, while here, enjoyed an enviable reputation as a sparer. The match was made to decide the championship of the two universities. The referee declared the contest a draw, but, as Mr. Roosevelt was unable to come to time in the last round, the championship appears to belong to Harvard.
