The record of the number of volumes drawn from the Yale Library from September 1, 1887, to August 31, 1888, as compiled from the librarian's book, is as follows:-

Professors. 2, 736.

Students in Divinity School. 1, 240.

Students in Law School. 132.

Students in Medical School. 37.

Students in Art School. 37.

Graduates. 1, 738.

Academic class of '88. 838.

Academic class of '89. 524.

Academic class of '90. 426.

Academic class of '91. 394.

Scientific class of '88. 255.

Scientific class of '89. 80.

Scientific class of '90. 68.

Others. 1, 418

Total. 9, 849

Professors lead in drawing books with about twenty-eight per cent. of the total number. Academic graduates are second with 22 per cent; theological students third with 12 per cent., and persons not connected with the college draw 14 per cent. Sheff. falls far below the average, only taking 4 1-2 per cent. More books were drawn in the first three months of the winter term than in any corresponding period.

The circulation of the Linonia and Brothers' librari 8 is not to be compiled by the librarian, but about 31,000 volumes have been drawn, of which members of the Academic Department took over 75 per cent. Thirty per cent, of the books in this library are novels.

It is of interest to note in comparison with these statistics that the number of books drawn from the Harvard Gore Hall Library by students is over 60,000 volumes for the year; and the number of reserved books taken out over night for the same time is more than 9000 volumes, about the amount taken out by Yale men from their university library, in the ordinary way, during an entire year.
