New Edition of "Athalie."

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A good juxtalinear translation of Racine's "Athalie," dedicated to Professor Norton, is published today by the French Department. The French, including the author's preface, is from the edition of 1697, the last published during the life-time of Racine. The translation which is rhythmic, was made by Asst. Professor de Sumichrast. Four full page illustrations of the 17th Century subjects embellish the volume. These and marginal notes explain the numberous biblical allusions in Acts III and IV.

The only possible fault to be found with this edition is that the act and scene is not indicated in the running head of each page, which is somewhat inconvenient.

This well printed volume is well worth getting and keeping, for it contains an excellent text and translation of this great tragedy in a compact and attractive form.
