The Shot-Putting Contests.

The fourth and last of the shot-putting contests took place yesterday afternoon on Holmes Field. E. H. Clark L. S. made the best put of the series, 38 ft. 3 in. The other efforts were mediocre or worse.

The winners of the three prizes are as follows: For the best put, 38 ft. 3 in., E. H. Clark L. S.; for the best average, 36 ft. 7 1-6 in., C. J. Paine, Jr., '97; for the most improvement, 11 1-6 in., V. L. Littis L. S. Clark really made the best average, 37 ft. 6 1-6 in., but one of the conditions of the series was that no man should receive more than one prize.

The result of these contests is not particulary encouraging. The purpose of the management in holding them was to bring out a larger number of men for this event. Eight men took part in the first competition, seven in the second, and but four men in the last two.
