Through an appropriation by the Athletic Committee, the management of the University fencing team has been enabled to engage M. Pierre Pianelli as instructor. M. Pianelli is fencing master at the Boston Athletic Association, and is considered one of the best instructors in America. He is a graduate of the national fencing school of France, the Joinville du Point, and served for twenty years as master in the French army. The instruction will be open to all members of the University who care to come out for the team. M. Pianelli will be at the Gymnasium on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from three to six, beginning today. The graduate supervisors of the team are Mr. James P. Parker '96, national amateur fencing champion, and Mr. F. W. Palfrey '02M., assisted by Mr. Sewall Cabot of the Boston Athletic Association. Instruction of all candidates, novices as well as experienced men, will continue through December, and later a limited squad will be picked for further training.

Several individual contests, including novice tournaments, will be held during the fall, and if possible, class teams will be formed. Early in March, a team will be chosen to represent the University in the intercollegiate tournament at New York, in which Harvard, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, West Point, Annapolis and Cornell will enter.
