Work on the River.

The progress of the University crews has been somewhat impeded of late by the sickness of three members of the squad. Filley and Lawson have had the grip, and Dillingham has been unable to row on account of a felon on his finger. All three of the men are now better, however, and will be on the river again by the last of the week. The changes necessitated by their absence have had a tendency to make the boat unsteady; but this fault was more or less over come in yesterday's long row. All three crews went over the four mile course to the Union Boat Club. Foster, Johnson, Richmond, and Shepard were taken to the training table Monday.

The date for the class championship race has been changed from Thursday, April 14, to Wednesday, April 13. On this day also the finals of the club races will be rowed, the preliminaries of which will be held on Saturday of this week. All of these races will be rowed up stream, over the mile and seven-eights course, from the Union Boat Club to the Longwood Bridge; those on Saturday at 4 o'clock, and those next Wednesday at 5 and 5.30, the class championship race coming at the later hour. The club Freshman race will be held on Friday, April 15.

Owing to the small number of times the class crews have rowed together, their work is not as far advanced as it should be so short a time before the race. The Senior crew is the farthest advanced; their blade work is good and they row well together, but have a tendency to slowness in starting the recover. The make-up of the Junior and Sophomore crews has been considerably changed lately, but they have nevertheless improved greatly in the last few days. The Law School crew has not attempted to adopt the new stroke introduced this year; but in spite of their brief period on the river they are rowing very well.
