The Cercle Francais has decided to present three short plays this year in place of the customary long production. The president, W. G. Wendell, '09, announced that it would be impossible to present "Les Bouffons," owing to the refusal of Mr. Charles Frohman to allow of its production. The pieces chosen are, "J'Invite Le Colonel," by Labiche, "Gringoire," by de Banville, and "La Gifie," by Dreyfus.
The first is an amusing comedy, the second is pathetic, the third a broad farce. The reason for the adoption of these three short plays, in the place of the usual long play, was an attempt to appeal to a wider public.
M. d'Armand has been selected to take charge of the production of the plays this year. He has had considerable experience in dramatic teaching, and has for some time been connected with the Alliance Francaise. It is expected that the actual work upon the plays will begin by Monday next, at latest.
