Spring Track Practice Begins Today

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Regular spring work for candidates for the University and Freshman track teams will begin today on Soldiers Field, and all are expected to report regardless of weather. Although the Stadium track is not yet dry enough for regular work, the men will run on side walks and under the Stadium for the next few days. The straightaway will probably be in condition by the middle of the week, but it is doubtful if the whole track will be in condition before the first of next week.

For the present men may work from 10.30 A. M. to 1 P. M. and from 2.30 to 5.30 o'clock in the afternoon. Track candidates should report to Coach Lathrop at the following times if possible: hurdlers, 3 to 3.30; sprinters, 3.30 to 4; distance runners, 4 to 5. Field candidates should report to Coach Quinn: polevaulters, 11 to 12; high-jumpers, 12 to 1; broad-jumpers, 3 to 4; shot-putters and hammer-throwers. 4 to 5. The jumping pits will not be in condition for several days, but all the men will be obliged to report and will be given work of a different nature.

All Freshman candidates for the field events should report at the Locker Building at 3 o'clock this afternoon. More material is needed, especially in the hammer-throw and shot-put. It is very necessary that men who intend to come out for these events should begin practice at once. Next Monday there will be a handicap broad-jump for all University and Freshman candidates and on Thursday, March 26, there will be a handicap hammer-throw.

Strict training will be required from now on, in preparation for the handicap and class games on April 11 and April 17 respectively. There will be no track work during the Easter vacation, but training will begin again immediately after the vacation in preparation for the dual meets with Dartmouth and Yale on May 9 and May 16 respectively, and the Intercollegiate championship games on May 29 and 30 at Franklin Field, Philadelphia.
